2 CDs for $15 at Futureshop

A few days ago I bought some new CDs at my local futureshop store, the advertised 2/$15 CDs.

Audioslave - Out of Exile
U2 - How to dismantle an atomic bomb
Beck - Odelay
Gwen Stefani - love.angel.music.baby
Killers - Hot Fuss

I have a rule about not buying any CD that costs over $8.

The founders of the new search engine site hakia are offering a contest to Celebrate New Years with them in Time Square New York.

As some of you may already know, several of Hakia's founders are also board members of Amigainc.

This contest offers the potential opportunity to bridge the gap between Amigainc and the members of the amiga community by way of networking through a new years party.. but only if you enter and are chosen!

Party like its 1999!

Contest rules here.

Fill out THIS survey to enter.

Set Top Box = obsolete

The "Set Top Box" concept is obsolete.

First, you can't put a box on top of modern day flat screen TVs.

Second, no one wants another big ugly box!

Most people are forced into getting a box because its a requirement to receiving digital television service.

The cable television companies want a box because with it they can offer their customers more: high definition digital channels, PVR/DVR, pay-per-view events, and Video On Demand.

All this serviced currently by a big ugly box.

We have Motorola boxes here.

Of course the cable companies would like to offer more services, like IP digital phones, and video phones next year.. but at least for now those are all extra boxes.

People want the small handheld sized devices, like the mp3 players, handheld game units, and mobile phones.

So I'm sure that if given the choice, people would choose the smaller devices over the big ugly boxes, right?

That said, the bigger the television screen, the better! Of course there's no reason why a small device couldn't be built into televisions that allow the cable companies to provide the type of services they want to provide, right?

A while ago ATI bought [IP for cable modem technology from the company Terayon] , so it will be interesting to see what emerges from this.

Why not have the cable modem, router and digital cable system all in one device with wireless capabilities?

Freescale has all the pieces.

I'm sure for the consumer/user they would prefer to have less big ugly boxes, less wires and less holes in their walls for all the wires to go through.
